The most well-known part is the cognitive domain, which includes six levels: Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis, and Evaluation. A revised version later updated the categories to: Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating, and Creating. کتاب Taxonomy of Educational Objectives یا همان «طبقه‌بندی اهداف آموزشی»، یکی از آثار بنیادین در حوزه‌ی آموزش است که توسط گروهی از روان‌شناسان آموزشی به سرپرستی بنجامین بلوم (Benjamin Bloom) تدوین شده است. این کتاب که بیشتر با عنوان طبقه‌بندی بلوم (Bloom’s Taxonomy) شناخته می‌شود، به معلمان و طراحان آموزشی کمک می‌کند تا اهداف یادگیری را به صورت سلسله‌مراتبی از سطوح پایین‌تر تا سطوح بالاتر تفکر تنظیم کنند. این طبقه‌بندی شامل دو حوزه اصلی است: حوزه شناختی (دانشی) و حوزه عاطفی (نگرش‌ها و ارزش‌ها). معروف‌ترین بخش این طبقه‌بندی، حوزه شناختی است که شامل شش سطح است: دانش، درک، کاربرد، تحلیل، ترکیب، ارزیابی (در نسخه جدید: به خاطر سپردن، درک کردن، به‌کارگیری، تحلیل، ارزیابی، خلق کردن). این کتاب تأثیر زیادی بر نحوه‌ی نوشتن اهداف درسی و ارزیابی پیشرفت دانش‌آموزان داشته است.
