Many people immigrate from developing to developed countries. What problems this immigration cause for these countries and what solutions do you offer?
Developing and underdeveloped countries have been wrestling with the problem of brain drain for many decades now. The extent of this problem can be recognized from the large influx of skilled workers who apply to immigrate to countries such as Canada and Australia. This trend has created a series of problems for these badly-off countries.
The biggest problem such countries as Iran and Iraq are facing is that the benefits of the investment they make to train this workforce is reaped by rich nations. In order to train a skilled doctor or specialist, hundreds of thousands of dollars are spent in colleges and universities. These nations are already struggling with economic issues and losing their experts and specialists at the expense of taxpayers worsens the situation. They educate doctor and engineers for years and when it is time to harvest the yield, they immigrate to industrial countries where their expertise is used without any compensation. To solve this problem, governments in poor countries should ensure that they spend their budget wisely and allocate their resources to people who have the intention of staying in their country at least for an extended period of time.
Another problem this immigration can cause is that with their specialists leaving their country, the already arduous path to industrialization and development becomes even harder to take. When a country loses their elite workforce, the hope to improve the present conditions starts to dim because the necessary force to create this momentum is absent. Those who can change the future of their country are on the wrong side of the borders. A way forward is to create incentives to make staying in such countries more tempting. Respect, better salaries and more facilities can coax many of these experts to stay and build their countries.
In conclusion, in order to avoid wasting money and losing their skillful workforce, governments of developing and underdeveloped need to implement steps to make sure they invest their money wisely and incentivise this workforce to abandon the idea of immigration for a better future in their own country.
